On Nov 4, 2000, Russ Schultz chartered MVRTA ETI/Skoda 9818 in celebration of his xxth birthday, and to inspect the trolley bus extensions recently opened in Dayton.

We proceeded from Longworth Ave simulating a morning eastbound Rt 3E pullout, which goes to Rt 7 wires via Stout St, and continues on Rt 7 to Wayne and Phillips, and then eastbound on Wayne. We took a few shots in Fauver Loop, which is no longer used as a regular destination with the new extensions. Employing the ETI/Skoda APU, we were able to get back on eastbound Wayne wires, and continue on to Eastown Hub.

Westbound, we retraced our steps on Rt 3 wires via Hearthstone and Arcadia to Wayne and on to downtown. At St Clair, we took a left and continued to Fourth, took a right and went thru downtown on Fourth to Wilkinson. After a photo stop, we went westbound on Third to Westown Hub. After a short photo stop, we continued up Elmhurst, passing the long since gone former streetcar loop at Residence Park, and continued to Townview Loop.

After a short photo stop, we went eastbound on Rt 3, took the loop north of Hoover via Graystone, Gardendale and Guenther, and continued back to Westown Hub. We then became a northbound (well, eastbound) 8, and inspected the new wires on Gettysburg and Lakeview. After a photo stop at Lakeview and Oakleaf, we continued to downtown, and out Rt 8 on northbound Salem.

As Salem is the heaviest traveled RTA trolley route, even on Saturdays, where 8 buses run the schedule, we became trapped behind a revenue service coach, and thus decided to bail at the Oxford-Lexington loop for a short photo stop. After this, we reengaged the APU to make a left onto Salem, and we continued up past Fairgreen on new wire to Northwest Hub. After a photo/potty stop, we went back to downtown on Salem and continued onto eastbound First. At Main, we used the APU to get across Main, and proceeded east on First. We passed Fifth-Third Field, home of the Midwest (A) League Dayton Dragons, and took the short turn at First and Meigs. Continuing west on Monument, we stopped at Monument and Patterson for a group photo shot, and then continued west under brand-new wire to Main. South on Main to Washington, and Washington to Longworth and back to the RTA.

Fantrips are a lot more convenient with an APU. "Way to go" to our driver Russ (not Schultz) and Harvey Hylton of the RTA. A truly fine way to commemorate a birthday.
